"El mundo tal y como lo conocíamos ha desaparecido. En medio de las guerras y el caos, un organismo corrupto, El Capitolio, se hizo con el poder, dividiendo el territorio habitable de la Tierra en un total de trece distritos, obligados a rendir sumisión al Gobierno y a trabajar incansablemente para él.¿Estás preparado?
No obstante, un Distrito optó por la rebelión: el número 13, cuya industria, la fabricación de armamento nuclear, podía plantar cara al armamento del Capitolio. La rebelión, no obstante, fue sofocada con crueldad, y en pos de evitar que la catástrofe sucediera una segunda vez, el Capitolio inició los Juegos del Hambre, un cruel espectáculo televisivo en el cual habrían de participar un chico y una chica de cada Distrito, de entre doce y dieciocho años. ¿La única regla?
Seguir con vida."
